The Marina opens to Smithland Pool, the largest manmade pool on the Ohio. With over 27,000 acres of fishing, anglers report record catches nearly every day. Spotted bass, white bass, freshwater drum, flathead catfish, channel catfish and blue catfish are just a few of the varieties in abundance there. Taking advantage of small tributaries and embankments feeding the Ohio, the Army Corps of Engineers along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources established the pool in 1980. The spring of 1988 Golconda Marina - a multi-million dollar facility, opened for use.

Smithland Pool - is the largest man-made pool. It begins at Uniontown Kentucky and stretches 72 miles to Smithland Lock and Dam. Golconda Marina is known as the Gateway to Smithland Pool.
